SSH Connection Setup

Installation Steps

  1. In the MobaXterm installation folder, execute the MobaXterm installer
  2. Copy and paste the .dat file into the installation folder, which is usually in C:\Program Files (x86)
  3. Open keygen and click on

Get Server Info from Vultr

  1. Log into Vultr account
  2. Go to server dashboard
  3. Copy server's IP address
  4. Note down server password (provided when created the server)
  5. Username is typically root for new servers

Note: Keep Vultr credentials handy - will need them in the next step.

Configure MobaXterm SSH Session

  1. Open MobaXterm
  2. Click on "Session" button (top left)
  3. Select "SSH" as the session type
  4. Enter server's IP address in the "Remote host" field
  5. Check the "Specify username" box and enter root
  6. Click "OK" to save the session
  7. When prompted in the terminal, paste server password

Note: MobaXterm may ask for a master password to encrypt saved sessions. This is my personal MobaXterm password, not my server password.

What I Need to Connect

What I'll Need:

  • IP Address: My server's IP from Vultr dashboard
  • Username: Typically root for initial setup
  • Password: Server password provided by Vultr

Security Reminder: Never share server credentials publicly. Store them securely using a password manager or on a .xlsxfile.
